xAPI (Experience API), also known as Tin Can API, is the modern successor to SCORM. Instead of only tracking course completion inside an LMS, xAPI records granular "statements" (actor–verb–object) about almost any learning experience — videos, simulations, mobile apps, or on-the-job activities — and stores them in a Learning Record Store (LRS).
This makes it ideal for blended, mobile, and practice-based learning where the most valuable activity happens outside a formal course. Many organisations use SCORM for standard courses and add xAPI for richer tracking.
