Virtual reality (VR) training immerses learners in a fully simulated, three-dimensional environment, usually via a headset, where they can practise tasks as if they were real. It is widely used for situations that are dangerous, expensive or impractical to rehearse physically — such as equipment operation, safety drills, surgery, or customer-facing soft skills. VR training improves engagement, confidence and skill transfer by letting learners 'learn by doing' repeatedly in a risk-free setting, and it can capture detailed performance data. Although headset cost and content production remain considerations, VR is increasingly used in corporate, industrial and healthcare learning.
