SAML (Security Assertion Markup Language)

SAML is an open standard that lets identity providers securely pass authentication information to applications, enabling single sign-on across systems. In a learning context, SAML allows employees to log in to the LMS using their existing corporate credentials — the same account they use for email or the company portal — instead of maintaining a separate LMS username and password. The identity provider verifies the user and sends a signed assertion to the LMS confirming who they are and what access they should have. The benefits are smoother access, fewer forgotten passwords, faster onboarding and offboarding, and centralised security control, since disabling one corporate account also revokes LMS access. SAML is one of the common protocols behind enterprise single sign-on, alongside alternatives such as OAuth and OpenID Connect. edzlms supports SAML-based single sign-on so learners reach their training with one secure, managed login.
