Performance support refers to tools and resources that help people do their jobs at the moment of need, without having to stop and complete formal training. Examples include job aids, checklists, decision trees, searchable knowledge bases, in-app guidance and AI assistants. Rather than trying to teach everything in advance, performance support provides just enough information exactly when and where a task is performed, reducing errors and reliance on memory. Closely tied to just-in-time learning and learning in the flow of work, it recognises that supporting performance directly is often more effective than adding another course.
