Natural language processing (NLP) is the branch of artificial intelligence concerned with enabling computers to understand, interpret and generate human language. In learning technology, NLP powers many features: automatic grading of written answers, plagiarism and similarity detection, chatbots and AI tutors, transcription and captioning, sentiment analysis of feedback, and the conversational ability of AI roleplay agents. Advances in NLP, especially large language models, have made these tools dramatically more capable. EdzLMS applies NLP within EDZLMS AI and Gelato to understand learner input, generate content and score spoken or written responses in real time.
