MOOC (Massive Open Online Course)

A MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) is an online course designed for unlimited participation and open access via the web, typically free or low-cost to enrol. Pioneered by platforms such as Coursera, edX and FutureLearn, MOOCs combine video lectures, readings, automated quizzes and peer interaction to deliver university- or industry-level content to thousands of learners at once. They democratised access to education and popularised many of the self-paced, scalable design patterns now common in corporate eLearning.
