Learning Record Store (LRS)

A Learning Record Store (LRS) is a data repository that collects, stores and retrieves learning records expressed in the xAPI (Experience API) format. Where a traditional LMS only tracks activity that happens inside it, an LRS captures learning experiences from many sources — simulations, mobile apps, virtual reality, videos and even on-the-job actions — as simple 'actor-verb-object' statements (for example 'Priya completed Safety Simulation'). This makes the LRS the backbone of modern learning analytics, providing a single, queryable record of how and where people actually learn across an entire ecosystem rather than just one platform. An LRS can run standalone or be built into an LMS or LXP, and it enables far richer reporting and insight than course-completion data alone.
