Learning Object

A learning object is a self-contained, reusable unit of digital learning content designed to teach a specific objective — for example a short video, an interactive exercise, a simulation or a quiz. Because each object is modular and tagged with metadata, it can be reused across multiple courses and recombined into new learning experiences, much like building blocks. Standards such as SCORM and xAPI allow learning objects to be packaged and tracked across different systems. Designing content as discrete learning objects supports efficient reuse, easier updates and the personalised assembly of material for different audiences.
