Large Language Model

A large language model (LLM) is a type of AI, trained on vast amounts of text, that can understand and generate human-like language to answer questions, summarise, translate, write and converse. LLMs underpin the recent wave of generative-AI tools and are transforming learning: drafting courses and assessments, powering AI tutors and roleplay, personalising explanations, and enabling natural-language search across content. Their power comes with the need for human oversight, since they can occasionally produce confident but incorrect output.
