A competency framework is a structured model that defines the knowledge, skills, behaviours and attributes required for effective performance in a role, team or whole organisation. It provides a shared language for what 'good' looks like, and underpins recruitment, performance management, career pathing and, crucially, learning and development. By mapping training and assessments to defined competencies, organisations can identify skills gaps, target development precisely, and measure progress objectively.
