Cohort

In Moodle, a cohort is a site-wide or category-wide group of users that can be enrolled into courses together in a single action, rather than one person at a time. Cohorts are ideal for managing large, recurring intakes — for example all employees in a department, every student in an academic year, or a batch of new hires — because adding a user to a cohort can automatically enrol them in all linked courses through cohort sync. When someone is removed from the cohort, their enrolment is removed too, keeping access tidy and secure. Cohorts dramatically reduce the administrative effort of managing enrolment at scale, and they are a core tool for any organisation delivering training across many courses and many people.
