Certification

Certification is the formal recognition that a learner has met a defined standard of knowledge or competence, usually by passing an assessment and receiving a certificate or credential. Certifications may be internal (issued by an employer for completing required training) or external and industry-recognised, such as professional qualifications. Many require periodic renewal or recertification to ensure skills stay current, which makes tracking expiry dates important — particularly for compliance and safety roles. An LMS automates certification by issuing certificates on course completion, recording who is certified, and reminding learners when recertification is due.
