Kirkpatrick Model

The Kirkpatrick Model is the best-known framework for evaluating the effectiveness of training, organising measurement into four levels. Level 1, Reaction, captures how learners felt about the training. Level 2, Learning, measures the knowledge, skills or confidence they gained. Level 3, Behaviour, assesses whether they actually apply that learning on the job. Level 4, Results, examines the business impact — improvements in metrics such as productivity, quality, sales or compliance. The model pushes L&D teams to look beyond satisfaction surveys and connect training to real performance and organisational outcomes. The higher levels are harder to measure but far more valuable, which is why learning analytics and on-the-job data are increasingly used to evidence Levels 3 and 4 and prove training's return on investment.
