Constructivism

Constructivism is a learning theory holding that people actively construct their own understanding by connecting new information to prior knowledge and experience, rather than passively receiving facts. Rooted in the work of Piaget and Vygotsky, it emphasises exploration, problem-solving, reflection and social interaction as the means by which knowledge is built. In practice, constructivist design favours hands-on activities, discovery, discussion, projects and scenario-based learning over rote memorisation. It is a major influence on modern instructional design and underpins approaches like active learning, collaborative learning and the use of authentic, real-world tasks in courses.
